About River Valley Artists

Formed in 2018, the River Valley Artists (RVA) was created to represent a group of artists and artisans from the towns of Chester, Essex and Deep River.

In the fall of the same year, they hosted a weekend tour of the studios and work places of RVA artists, allowing them to share their art with the general public and art peers. Coinciding with the tour was also an exhibit at the Essex Art Association. It featured work by tour artists as well as those of other local artists from the surrounding areas.

The tour was a success and repeated in 2019. Originally scheduled to go on in September of 2020, the weekend studio tour was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our tour will continue again on September 17 & 18 of 2021. Like the previous two, it will be accompanied by an exhibit of art by tour participants and additional local artists at Essex Art Association's gallery on North Main Street in Essex, CT.

In the meantime, River Valley Artists have a year-round rotating show of new and original works at Earth and Fire Art Studio at 2 Main St., Essex. The shows change every three months.

We will have of a show of local scenes in January at SOMA in Deep River and an exhibit, co-hosted by the Essex Land Trust, of art depicting the Trust's, Cross Lots Preserve in April at the Essex Library.

River Valley Artists also meet for weekly plein air painting at various locations from 2 to 5 on Tuesdays.
